Prof. Rafi A is currently serving as the Vice Principal of MES Institute of Technology and Management, Chathannoor, Kollam and as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He has previously served as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, contributing significantly to departmental development and academic planning.
He has also held the additional responsibility of Principal (In-Charge) of MES Institute of Technology and Management during two tenures: from 30th August 2024 to 31st October 2024 and from 29th July 2025 to 9th December 2025, during which he played a vital role in institutional leadership, academic administration and governance.
With over 24 years of teaching experience in engineering colleges under the MES management, Prof. Rafi A began his academic career in 2001 and has served in various capacities including Lecturer, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor.
He has rendered long-standing service in university examination administration, having functioned as the Chief Superintendent for University Examinations of both Kerala University and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) at MES Institute of Technology and Management for an extended period, ensuring the smooth, fair, and transparent conduct of examinations.
Prof. Rafi A also served as the IQAC Coordinator of MES Institute of Technology and Management for a considerable duration, where he actively contributed to quality assurance initiatives, academic audits and continuous institutional improvement.
He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kerala, completing his undergraduate studies at TKM College of Engineering, Kollam. He earned his Master’s Degree in Heat Power Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in an Energy Conservation–related research area.
Prof. Rafi A has published research papers in journals and conference proceedings and is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).
Before joining MES Institute of Technology and Management, he served at MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram from 13th August 2001 to 19th August 2009. He joined MES Institute of Technology and Management on 20th August 2009 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and has since made significant contributions to the institution’s academic excellence and administrative growth.
